LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS ON THE EARTH TODAY

God, our creator has declared that he is the same yesterday, today and forever unchanging. Have you ever asked yourself this question? If God, our loving heavenly father, the creator of us all would send prophets to his people during the Old Testament days and during the New Testament days, why would God not send us prophets in modern times? Is it because we no longer need direction from God? Is it because we are so much more educated and sophisticated, that we no longer need prophets to guide us and bring us God’s word and will? Is it because we have an abundance of ministers, religious leaders and televangelists and our prayers will carry the day? Is it because God is mad at us and does not want to send us prophets to let us know his future plans for us? Is it because the orthodox religions of the day have determined there will be no more prophets? Or has God really sent us prophets and we just don’t know they have been here or that they are here today? Remember even the message of Christ and Christ himself was not recognized as the real thing, by most of the people during his mortality. Does a prophet have to be dead for centuries before he is recognized by the people? Without question if we take the Old Testament and New Testament and attempted to prove it by total accuracy, we would have a difficult time. We would find an “I” that had not been dotted and a “T” that had not been crossed-probably several of them. Even the four gospels differ in actual accounts of the mortal life of Christ and his ministry. Also the pioneer Christian standard bearer, the Apostle Paul, who is revered today was looked upon by many with a jaundiced eye in his day. If the argument of secular knowledge then leaves us in a political standoff regarding true or false prophets, is there a scriptural or spiritual standard we can follow? For those of us who accept Jesus Christ and his gospel doctrine and declarations, then we will use the standard Christ has given us for separating the true prophets from the false prophets. Let us continue then and reason together by the Saviors’ standard.

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” Matthew 7: 15-20

Has anyone in modern times delivered a religious message, declaring that he has seen and talked with God as Moses did? Has anyone in modern times declared that he has seen and talked with Jesus Christ? Has anyone declared that he has visited with apostles of old, Peter, James and John? Has anyone declared that he has visited with John the Baptist, with John’s head totally restored? Has anyone declared that he was visited by an angel and the angel told him that God had commanded him to deliver up some plates to be translated that would reveal that Christ had visited the early inhabitants of the American continent and was seen by many people of that day? (Some of my sheep are not of this fold) That the translation of these plates were abridged and combined from centuries of recordings and preserved for our time? Has anyone declared that God told him that the church of Jesus Christ had been corrupted and no longer existed on the earth and was to be restored complete with all the ordinances, keys and priesthood powers of the early church?

As a matter of fact, there is someone who has delivered that message declaring all of the above and more. That person is Joseph Smith Jr., the founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the fastest growing Christian faith in America, if not in the world today.

Could it really be a fact there have been and still are prophets on the earth that most of the world is not aware of. Could it be that these prophets have brought and are still bringing messages from God that could solve many of the problems and social issues of our times? Using the standard of Jesus Christ for discovering this truth our next post will begin to explore these questions in depth.

A WORLD IN TURMOIL - LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS

Time to go back to the days of Noah the prophet and take a look. Jesus spoke of those days in Matt.24:37-38: “But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. “For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark”. Today we are marrying and giving in marriage like changing partners at a square dance, with a divorce rate above 50%. Except we are carrying the marrying thing all the way into Sodom and Gomorrah with same sex marriages and millions just living together without the marriage vows.

We are told in Genesis. 6:9-12 that Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations and Noah walked with God . We read further that the earth also was corrupt before God and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth and behold, it was corrupt: for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. The rest is history God so hated violence he destroyed the inhabitants with a flood. There is no such thing as a utopia of peace without God and God’s ways. Violence and corruption becomes the substitute way of the world. Wake up America we have become the most violent nation on earth with 159,000,000 million crimes committed against Americans during the 13-year period ending 2002. Many of those crimes were horrendous and violent. It is not difficult to see we are living in a world of turmoil-time to listen to the prophets.

Only God Can Choose The Prophet

As mortals we do not have the mind and will of God. We see through mortal eyes and make mortal conclusions and rely largely upon mortal perceptions. Often those perceptions do not square with truth and in fact often those perceptions prove to be very faulty. Today if a prophet chosen of God came out of Greenwood or Slidell, Texas declaring the calling of a prophet how would we receive him? Chances are because of our public media indoctrination and our modern culture, we would insist upon an impressive resume. Greenwood and Slidell Texas population would vastly increase overnight with media photographers and reporters. We would want the alleged prophet to produce card-carrying credentials. We would want proof of a family genealogy. We might even want to compare him with Abraham, Isaac, Moses and Elijah or the like. Lastly we probably would want some theological background and may even want to see a graduation certificate from a theological school. By this time the judgmental and speculative culture of the public media would come into play and the real serious scrutiny would start to dominate the public domain for an indefinite period of time-or as long as the high ratings remained. It is important to note the Savior only gave one simple test to tell a true prophet. Obviously the secular beliefs and authority of the day did not enter into the test. No we simply apply the Savior’s standard and the test of time will give us the answer-by their fruits ye shall know them. (Matthew 7: 12-20) By this standard only God knows the heart and mind of his chosen prophets. Our portrait of a prophet would be much different. Have all of the prophets been perfect? Of course they were not perfect because they lived in mortality and were subject to mortal weaknesses. Did their weaknesses make them any less of a prophet? No the prophet was still a chosen prophet of God. As we spotlight the prophets of God past and present on this Blog perhaps we can find a renewed appreciation and understanding of God’s purpose for the prophets.

PROPHETS OF GOD SPEAK FOR GOD ON EARTH

The author of this blog pre-supposes that our visitors agree upon the fundamentals of our existence on the planet earth. Those fundamentals include; (1) where we came from, (2) what we are doing here and (3) where we are going. All of these questions have been answered in the scriptures with current instruction given by the prophets sent to the earth by our Creator. Throughout the ages prophets of God have been placed on the earth to speak for God. It is not logical that our Creator would send us here and then totally abandon us without current instruction and direction. For those of us who study the scriptures we know that God gave us the most basic of all instruction relating to the place and purpose of prophets on the earth. In the Old Testament in the book of Amos; 3:7 we read; “Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.” That being the case it is only logical to believe that prophets would always have to be upon the earth to receive those secrets. The early prophets prophesied not only of the coming of the Savior but also of the coming of a latter-day prophet to open the last dispensation of the fullness of times. Few people are aware of the prophecy and its fulfillment and that prophets remain on the earth today to receive the instruction and direction from God for the inhabitants of planet earth. That knowledge when discovered and accepted could change the direction of our nation and the world.
